Camden...A Christmas Town
The Chamber of Commerce announced its 20th Annual Christmas Ornament
2007 Stacy's Candy House — This house was build in 1942 by Deason Erastus Upson. It was on the hill overlooking the point where Church Street and Union Streets meet. In 1902 the Honorable Russell Johnson bought the house. He cut the house in half and moved each end outward. A large three story section was build between them. He sold it in 1920. The house changed hands several times. In 1952 the Walter Stacy family bought the house and ran a candy shop there for several years. It was a very popular for school homemaking classes to visit, especially during the Christmas Holiday.
Santa Arrives!
Thursday, Dec. 6 was a Norman Rockwell setting for the little Village of Camden, NY. Almost 200 children anxiously awaited Santa's visit in the Village Park. Promptly at 6:00 PM, Mr. & Mrs. Santa arrived, riding on a fire truck. The evening was just beautiful. Snow covered the lighted trees, high school students caroled in the bandstand, children played in the snow and slid down the high banks as they waited their turn to see Santa. Young and old alike enjoyed the horse drawn wagon rides, hot chocolate and cookies. Each and every child was given a peppermint candy cane by Mrs. Santa, and had a chance to sit on Santa's lap and read their letters and give their requests for Christmas. The Marine Corps League "Toys For Tots" had a special gift for every child and even some for family pets. It was a very special evening filled with excited children, songs, smiles, and loving families. Camden is truly "A CHRISTMAS TOWN."
